  Artist/teacher

I am a professional artist and art teacher.
My work is a celebration of the tenacious bits of wild that defy human activity,
written in simplified shapes and complex textures, designed to make the viewer look deeper.

Studio visits by luck or by appointment are welcome.
Work
available at Art Emporium, 177 Main St Port Stanley Ontario

My work is multi layered, colourful, and complex. I've developed a process I call glazed acrylic through years of experimentation and adventuring with mediums and glazes. Each work tells the story of the land, through the patterns laid down first by glacial activity, then by mankind's interaction with the undulating landscapes. Increasingly those stories are disappearing under the encroachment of development and climate change.  I feel an urgent call to record the beauty and stories I see in colour and pattern before it's too late.

Though I'd taught for many years, in 2011 I became certified as an artist educator.
Since then, I have been presenting art based programming in long term care, with an emphasis on Dementia, Alzheimer's and special needs programming. Programs are sensory, stimulating, age appropriate, seasonally relevant, and use a multitude of modalities.
I also offer Project Packs for sale containing everything needed for the activity

From my studio I teach both adults and kids in private and semi private classes. We explore a variety of media, and art styles, often studying an artist and their work, then trying our hand at that artist’s style. We have fearlessly tackled printmaking, assemblage, sculpture, collage, papermaking, intarsia, and so on, plus  many many styles of painting.
I emphasize creative problem solving, along with basic skills in composition, colour mixing, value study and line management. Most of all we have fun.
I also teach workshops, and do art pARTys.
